The Cap de Creus range embraces a selection of local varieties from the Alt Empordà region where the headland of Cap de Creus overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, where the Tramuntana wind blows and where vines grow on Pyrenean fine slate soil (licorella); these natural features shape the character of these wines.
These wines are faithful to the place where they come from. They are the authentic expression of a territory of unique beauty, of the exceptional soil where the vineyards grow, of the identity of local varieties and of the influence of the powerful Tramuntana wind.
Joan Sardà, passionate about his land, the Penedès, and the sea, brought his wines beyond our borders, making them known to the world, especially in the Caribbean.
In the same way, he fused his love of wine with his love of the sea and the coast, making wine from his family's vineyards in Port de la Selva, where they had their summer house. And this is how Cap de Creus wine was born.
The Alt Empordà region lies in the far northeast of Catalonia and it has a rich landscape and cultural wealth. The region borders the Pyrenees to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the east and a plain to the south.
Both vine growing and the climate in the area, which experiences mild winters with hot summers tempered by sea breezes, are marked by the strong Tramuntana wind. This wind is the most characteristic feature of the Empordà climate, and it is beneficial to the health of vines in the area.
4 hectares of vineyards, located near the villages of Pau, Vilajuïga and Garriguella, with a varietal composition that is distributed between Lledoner Negre and Lledoner Blanc, Macabeu and Carinyena.
The mix of soils in the vineyards adds a unique character to our wines; Pyrenean fine slate (licorella), slate, granite with a sandy texture and shallow soil.
